Google has acquired Meebo.com, is shutting it down and why I am happy they are. PDF Print E-mail
Posted on August 15, 2012

Google has acquired Meebo.com and has decided to shut down 99% of their products including the cloud based instant messaging client that Meebo is known for. This has probably pissed off a lot of people but I am on the other side of the track as I am quite happy that Google has decided to do this.

[FIXED] Error on MoboPlayer Resulting with Crashing Gingerbread PDF Print E-mail
Posted on July 30, 2012

Update: I never received a response from the developers of MoboPlayer but as of their latest update to the app it appears that they have fixed this problem.

I just updated to the latest version of Moboplayer and I was introduced to a very cool idea for their video player, Window Mode. This allows you to play a video in an overlay on top of the rest of your phone so you can do other stuff while you watch/listen to your desired media. So I decided to use this to watch a podcast while I did some other stuff but I didn't want it to be in the way much at all so I started tapping the "minus" button to make the video as small as possible but if you tap it too much you get a terrible surprise, an UNUSABLE PHONE.

Wunderlist FogApp Themes with Version Updates Checking PDF Print E-mail

Wunderlist FogApp Theme - Ubuntu 12.04

Our newly released Wunderlist FogApp 0.2 now has support for Themes, something that is otherwise impossible with Wunderlist. :) The Wunderlist FogApp also supports a version update checking system for the FogApp itself (for non-PPA users) and any installed Themes (for all users). Theme updates are only available for Wunderlist FogApp OFFICIAL Themes as they have to be tested and verified by us (here at Visuex). The downloads for the themes almost must be hosted here at Visuex.com to utilize the Themes Update Checker...if you don't want to use that, then you can host it anywhere you want.

This is a fogapp which is a webapp based on the integration software known as Fogger, unfortunately Fogger is no longer in development and because of that we can no longer continue to maintain an app for abandoned software. If you are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS then you can still use our app but it will not be modified for any other versions.

Wunderlist FogApp - Updating from 0.1 to 0.2 PDF Print E-mail
Posted on July 24, 2012

The update process for 0.1 to 0.2 is a bit different. I am creating a PPA version and a Non-PPA version of the Wunderlist FogApp for people who don't like using 3rd-party PPAs...which I understand...and for those people I built an in-app Version Checker for informing them of new updates to both the FogApp and to FogApp Themes.

If you are using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS then you can still try use our app but it will not be modified for any other versions and I'm pretty sure that it will not work with the latest verions of Wunderlist. - Note: I've moved to Todoist anyway.

Wunderlist FogApp for Ubuntu 12.04 Released PDF Print E-mail
Posted on July 24, 2012

Wunderlist is BACK on Ubuntu (12.04) equipped with Unity Integration!

Wunderlist is an outstanding To-Do List application that has a WebApp and downloads for Android, iOS, Mac OSX, & Windows but unfortunately for my fellow Linux users Wunderlist does not currently have a Linux compatible version of their application. They did used to have one but sadly it does not work for the current version of Ubuntu which is 12.04...so we made our own!

LastPass: Last Password You'll Ever Have to Remember? PDF Print E-mail
Posted on June 18, 2012

What is LastPass?

LastPass is a Password Manager tool that allows you to only remember one (though purposefully hard-to-remember) password for everything you do online and actually in some cases even for things done offline. LastPass is much more than just a manager though because it also provides tools for Automatic Password Generation, Auto-Fill, Auto-Login, One-Time Passwords, Easy Password Search, Importing Passwords from almost every option imaginable (including 10 I've never heard of) and much MUCH more!

My Quicky Verdict: for people who don't have the patience to read the whole article...

GET IT NOW! LastPass is Amazing, Incredibly Useful, FREE* and something I will never be without! (* - there is a paid version for $12 per YEAR and well worth it!)

Visuex Discontinues ALL Projects & Services for LiveZilla PDF Print E-mail
Posted on January 03, 2012

This is a port from an article I made for Visuex.com but it is no longer relevant to VIsuex so I decided to move it here for long term access.

is LiveZilla worth $1,600? short answer: HAHA, NO!

We here at Visuex used to be advocates for LiveZilla, we created Open Source Projects and even started a Design service based on it. However, since the release of Version 4 not only are we no longer advocates but we are now 100% Anti-Livezilla. This article will explain why we stopped using the software as well as the reasoning for why we became Anti-LZ and why our stance of Anti-LZ is so severe as to discontinue our projects and service for it.

Update (05/09/2013): LiveZilla has lowered their priced from $1,600 to now "just" $1,200...still more expensive than TEN combined pro-level Adobe products so not much of an improvement.

How to use an SSL Shell to validate non-secure Facebook iFrame Apps PDF Print E-mail
Posted on September 20, 2011

UPDATE: This solution has been broken by recent updates from Facebook and is not possible to fix their break.

Facebook has decided to require SSL certificates (https://) for all iFrame Facebook Apps as of October 1st, 2011. This decision has been met with mixed reactions and even I'm conflicted with what I think about it. On one hand, I agree with it because having a secure connection over non-secure will certainly help the casual users that use Facebook and have no need to know what it even is. On the other hand, I don't like it because it then requires people who make Facebook Apps for clients like I do to have SSL Certificates for each client/app. That would be a VERY BIG hassle to deal with especially on websites that have absolutely zero need for SSL, like this site which doesn't collect anything from its visitors.

This tutorial will show you how to use a single SSL Certificate (you need at least one, that is unavoidable) to make as many Facebook Apps on as many Domains as you need to.

Why the lack of customizing the Google +1 Button is awful for website design PDF Print E-mail
Posted on September 20, 2011

You see how great that +1 button could look on a dark background site design (like this one)?

Well unfortunately that is impossible because of the way the Google +1 code is setup. You can change the size of the button, the annotation and many other things but for some reason Google has decided that the design and colors of the +1 button can't be touched by anyone which in turn makes it clash with MANY website designs thus making it awful to implement.

How to quickly add Google Chrome Frame to your Joomla template PDF Print E-mail
Posted on September 20, 2011

This tutorial will show you how to quickly and very easily add the Google Chrome Frame meta tag to your Joomla templates with just one line of code.

What is the Google Chrome Frame?

Google Chrome Frame is a free plug-in for Internet Explorer. Some advanced web apps use Google Chrome Frame to provide you with additional features and better performance.  You or your visitors will get a faster web experience (sites that utilize GCF become more responsive) and enjoy more advanced features (with GCF, sites offer you new features based on open technologies). Overall it will provide you with a much better Internet experience over standard Internet Explorer.
