Linux T-Shirt Concept Design PDF Print E-mail
Posted on June 09, 2013

I decided that I wanted a Linux related T-Shirt but I couldn't find one that I liked very much...Canonical makes decent shirts for Ubuntu but I want a "Linux in general" shirt not an Ubuntu shirt. I've searched and search, there are plenty of shirts out there but they are typically very poor quality or based solely around the logos of a distribution. Logo shirts are great for distros like Arch, Linux Mint, etc but again I want a "Linux in General" shirt.

UPDATED #2 on 06/21/2013: Sorry Everyone! The Shirt is Temporarily Not For Sale!

Bad News: Spreadshirt removed the shirt due to copyright. I submitted the art a week ago which they removed it for copyright. I refuted the removal to which they then approved it. Now they removed it once again after launching it saying they have a cease and desist order for all "Linux" related printing. So it looks like I have to provide legal documents that state I have permission to use the trademark of Tux the Penguin.

Good News: I will do what I can to get the shirts for sale again as soon as possible. I'm not giving up, I want the shirt too! :)

Zombieland Rule #42 - "Make a Terrible TV Show" PDF Print E-mail
Posted on May 03, 2013

* There are spoilers in this review but the show is so awful my review is probably more entertaining than the show. *

The Zombieland Pilot from Amazon is just "WOW" but in the worst possible way because it's just completely AWFUL! They took an awesome movie and then butchered EVERYTHING that made it good. Here are many but not all of the reasons for how bad this show is...

Feedly Mosaic Userstyle, Reclaim Your RSS Grid PDF Print E-mail
Posted on April 10, 2013

The outstanding RSS Reader app called Feedly released a new version of the app with v14. Version 14 comes with a lot of new features, bug fixes, speed improvements and much more but unfortunately they decided to kill the "Mosaic" view (Grid) from v14. Feedly decided to replace the "Mosaic" view (my preferred view) with a new "Cards" view which essentially was an attempt to do the vertical column layout style made famous by Pinterest. In my opinion, and many others, this was a mistake. I decided to create a userstyle with the browser addon, Stylish. Before we get to the userstyle that I created and the reasons of why I created should first know what a Userstyle is and what Stylish is.

Feedlet: Feedly Add Feed (subscription) Bookmarklet PDF Print E-mail
Posted on April 10, 2013

Feedly is Awesome! For those who don't know, Feedly is a cross-platform and cross-browser RSS Reader app. I have used Feedly off and on for years now but due to the closure of Google Reader, Feedly has become a vastly more dominant force in the RSS realm. Feedly has a LOT of great features and tools but there was one thing I wanted to be a little bit easier, the process for adding new feeds (subscriptions) to the application.

I created this Bookmarklet to solve this problem. This bookmarklet works on all browsers and operating systems (except mobile) that Feedly supports and is ridiculously easy to use.

How To Disable/Hide Spotify's Tray Menu and Use the Sound Menu or HUD PDF Print E-mail

Spotify's Tray Menu Disabled while using Ubuntu Ambiance Theme

on Spotify on Ubuntu 12.04

Some people have expressed wanting to use my Spotify Ambiance theme but to also disable the Tray Menu entirely in order to just use the Sound Menu since having both is rather redundant. I agree with sentiment and this blog post is a tutorial on how to do just that. This tutorial also contains downloads to use the Disable the Tray Menu with the Ambiance theme and with the default Spotify theme.

Google Translate -

Recently I have been working on a Linux project called "uGet" which is a download manager app for Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, OpenSUSE, etc) and I have been trying to do some social networking for it through Twitter. Turns out a lot of people who use download managers and Linux and Twitter speak languages other than English. "Go Figure" I know, right! Interestingly enough, the most popular language among these users is Indonesian. It doesn't need to be said but I will...I don't know Indonesian AT ALL, so when I want to tell them about uGet I need to use a translator and the best free option right now is Google Translate.

Ubuntu Ambiance Theme for Spotify plus Radiance Icon PDF Print E-mail

Ubuntu Ambiance Theme for Spotify ( running on Ubuntu 12.04

Spotify looks nice in general but Linux is all about customization but Spotify clashes a lot with the default theme of Ubuntu (Ambiance) so I decided to customize it to the Ambiance theme. In this blog post you can find the Download file of this open source theme and the instructions on how to install it. The installation takes very little time and is VERY easy to do BUT it does require making changes as Root. (required because of Spotify's structure of the app)

Spotify's Linux Preview Tray Icon is Ugly and Can't be Changed PDF Print E-mail
Posted on January 09, 2013

Spotify is a great service and their recent updates to their Linux version has fixed all the problems I was having with the program, except for one. Spotify's tray icon on Linux is UGLY and breaks the feel of the desktop ignoring the monochrome style. To make this worse, Spotify decided to make this icon impossible to change yourself. I created an icon that fits well with the desktop style but when I tried to apply it, I found out that Spotify likes their icon so much they refuse to let you change it.

UPDATE: I was totally wrong about customizing and in fact when I found that out I made a custom theme and multiple custom icons. :) - Links available in the right sidebar.

The above screenshot/anti-ad shows the icon that I made to replace the default icon...Hopefully this blog post will make them realize the way they implemented the icon is AWFUL. ::fingers crossed:: - For those who care, the reason why it doesn't allow customization is provided after the break.

Why HTC & Verizon equals Smartphone Hell - by a Frustrated Thunderbolt Owner PDF Print E-mail
Posted on December 05, 2012

I am a long time user of both HTC and Verizon but I've decided that as long as either company continue the path they are currently on, I will never purchase a single device or service plan from them again. This blog post is basically just me ranting about both companies and why I think no one should use either and of course alternatives to both.

[FIXED] Betterfly Overstepping - Auto-Creating Facebook Pages WITHOUT Permission PDF Print E-mail
Posted on September 10, 2012

Update 11/19/2012 @ 9:21pm: It appears that the pages that are being auto-generated by Betterfly are not being removed UNLESS you personally request for them to be removed, based on the comments below, because if they were taking them all down there would not be comments to the contrary below. So if this happens to you, report it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to have it removed.

If you want I have provided a quick tutorial for deactivating your Betterfly account at the bottom of this blog appears that it is not currently possible to actually delete an account and that you can only deactivate it.

Update 09/10/2012 @ 3:30pm: I have been contacted by Betterfly and have received confirmation that this was purely is mistake by their system which auto-generated this action and was experienced by more than just me. They have corrected the problem and have deleted the pages that were auto-created. So this was annoying but I will give them credit for addressing this very well done Betterfly on the damage control.

"Better makes people happy", well it is safe to say that I am not at all happy with Betterfly's decision to overstep and create a Facebook page in my name without my permission or knowledge. Google Alerts is an AWESOME service that I will write about in more detail in the future but today I learned (thanks to Google Alerts) that the website decided to do a bit of overstepping by creating a Facebook Page in my name...without my permission or even informing me of it.

The Facebook page, viewable at, was made without my concent or even knowledge. Even if this thing was in their "EULA" or added to it at some point, this is still not an acceptable thing for any company to do...creating profiles/accounts/pages on another site on behalf of their users without their concent or knowledge of such an action is just appalling for any company to do. Even if they are "just trying to help".
